WTS Orange County Scholarship Opportunity
2011-12 Scholarship Applications Now Available
Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) is an international organization with more than 4,000 members. WTS is committed to excellence in the transportation industry and provides opportunities for member career advancement through the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences.
To encourage women pursuing careers in transportation, the Orange County Chapter of WTS will be offering multiple graduate and undergraduate scholarships this year to women in Southern California. In 2010, WTS Orange County awarded six $5,000 scholarships; three to undergraduate and three to graduate students. The number of scholarships and the amounts for the 2011-2012 academic year will be determined following a review of the applications received, but it is anticipated that a similar level of funding will be available to be distributed to exceptional applicants.
Scholarship applications are available for download at www.wtsinternational.org, under ‘Chapters’, ‘Orange County’, and ‘Scholarships’ or via the links above. Please complete the application, scan the entire application packet (including attachments) and send as a PDF document to: wtsocscholarship@gmail.com

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Tour
Sunday, July 24, please join the UCLA Ext. Student Chapter of the ASLA for an afternoon tour of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and lectures by two experts in landscape sustainability. Students, alumni and instructors welcome!
Tickets $5 - please make a donation via the PayPal "Donate" button to the right. Forty (40) spots reserved, available on a first come-first served basis. All proceeds benefit the Student Chapter of ASLA.
Event details as follows:
Santa Barbara Botanic Garden - 1212 Mission Canyon Road, Santa Barbara, 93105 (meet in the library)
10 AM talk by Steve Windhager, Executive Director, Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens.
11 AM docent-led tour of the beautiful CA native garden.
12 PM lunch break (lunch not provided).
Historic Hill-Carrillo Adobe - 15 East Carrillo Street, Downtown Santa Barbara (meet in the board room)
1 PM talk by Owen Dell, landscape architect, author, and television co-host of “Garden Wise Guys.”
Steve Windhager is the Executive Director of the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens (sbbg.org) and prior Director of Sustainable Sites Initiative and Landscape Restoration at the University of Texas and Director of Landscape Restoration at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Texas.
Owen Dell is a landscape architect, lecturer and co-host of the Santa Barbara based television show “Garden Wise Guys” (owendell.com). He is the author of "How to Start a Home Based Landscaping Business" and Sustainable Landscaping for Dummies."
The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is an educational and scientific institution fostering stewardship of the natural world through inspired learning, rigorous scholarship, and premier displays. With an emphasis on plants native to California, the Garden advances the knowledge and understanding of plant life and provides a rewarding experience for visitors.

THESIS PANEL Q & A
The Student Chapter of ASLA at UCLA Extension presents...
A moderated panel discussion with thesis instructors, current thesis students, and an alumna, now
working in the field, providing multiple perspectives on the thesis process. The format will be an openconversation, allowing 1-3 year students to ask any and all questions that they may have regarding
future senior thesis projects.
